Alignment eyewear has been developed for laser operators, technicians, engineers, maintenance and service personnel who may occasionally need to safely observe light emitted from visible lasers (400nm - 700nm) while performing critical alignment procedures.  Proper selection of optical density (OD) protection levels within this wavelength region must take into account anticipated laser output power and maximum permissible exposure (MPE) levels for potential exposures that are not intended to exceed an individual's 'blink reflex' or aversion response to a bright light stimulant (i.e., <0.25 seconds).
